Three Machakos Boys High School students accused of arson after a fire destroyed school property worth Sh6.68 million have denied the charges.
The trio denied the charges before the Machakos Senior Resident Magistrate Dorcas Endoo, where, according to the prosecution, the fire broke out at the Musau Junior Secondary School dormitory on June 19, 2026, at approximately 12:35 a.m., causing extensive destruction to the school’s property.
The court heard that investigations by relevant authorities linked the three students to the incident, which led to their arraignment. However, the accused denied all the allegations when the charges were read before the court.
Following their plea, the court granted each of the suspects on a cash bail of Sh100,000 or a bond of Sh400,000 pending the hearing and determination of the case.
Magistrate Endoo directed that the matter be mentioned on August 27, 2026, for pre-trial directions as the case proceeds through the judicial process.
The prosecution indicated that investigations into the dormitory fire are ongoing as authorities continue gathering evidence surrounding the incident.
