One life lost following a road accident in Marsabit

A man died while another sustained serious injuries today after a vehicle they were traveling in overturned at the Hulahula area along the Isiolo-Marsabit highway in Marsabit County.

Marsabit Traffic Base Commander Martin Muthaura said the accident involved a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle that was transporting miraa from Meru with two occupants on board.

Muthaura said the driver of the ill-fated vehicle died on the spot after he lost control following a tyre burst.

He added that preliminary investigations show that the vehicle veered off the road and overturned before landing in a ditch.

The base commander said the incident took place at around 6am in the morning, adding that the injured passenger is undergoing treatment at the Marsabit County and Referral Hospital.

He appealed to motorists to always be keen on the road and especially at the spot, which is known to experience strong crosswinds that could compromise road safety.

The body of the deceased was removed by police to the Marsabit County Referral Hospital mortuary.

The scene of the accident was littered with the miraa cargo, which was strewn all over, while the vehicle wreckage was towed to Marsabit police station.
