Residents of Huhoini village in Laikipia County woke up to a sad Tuesday after a married man and a father of three stabbed his ex- lover with a knife injuring her critically and then committed suicide.

George  Thenya  who worked at the neighbouring Njonjo girls high school stabbed his fellow subordinate staff at the school, before hanging himself in what police termed as crime of passion

The deceased is said to have waylaid Naomi Nyambura as she was reporting to work at around 7am.He stabbed her several times using a kitchen knife, before committing suicide.

According to Nyahururu Sub-County Police Commander, Geoffrey Maiyek, passersby found the woman lying unconscious in a pool of blood and rushed her to Nyahururu county referral hospital.

“The woman is currently admitted at the facility in a stable condition,” added Maiyek.

The police boss said the motive of the attack could not be established immediately but investigations had been launched.

The deceased’s wife, Gladys Njoki  said she was aware of the love relationship between her husband and the victim, which  she claimed ended two years ago.

“I really  don’t  know what triggered him to commit the heinous act as he was looking okay in the morning as he left for  work,” said the mother of three.

Miriam  Wanjiru, a villager, urged residents to resolve their family issues peacefully instead of taking the law into their  own hands.

“We  are  urging Kenyans to find better ways of addressing societal problems so that people can live in peace,” she said.

The  body of the deceased was moved to the Nyahururu county referral hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, cases of couples and lovers killing each other are on the rise in the region. Last  week, a 34 year old man hacked her lover to death before hanging himself in his bedroom at Ndemu village in Umande location, Laikipia East Sub County.
