Momanyi feted by Nyamira residents for electoral win in USA

Residents of Gusii region thronged Nyambaria Boys High school in Nyamira County to celebrate their daughter Hulda Momanyi Hiltsley for winning an electoral seat in the state assembly of Minnesota, in America.

The thanksgiving celebration hosted by Governor Amos Nyaribo, brought together leaders of all levels from Nyamira and beyond, the clergy, family, and the diaspora family, to celebrate the first Kenyan-American to be elected a representative in the USA during the November election.

Governor Nyaribo congratulated Hulda, saying the electoral triumph is not just for her and the people of Minnesota but also for the people of Nyamira because she will open the door for opportunities that are available for their Kenyan family.

“I promise a close collaboration and partnership in all aspects which will benefit our people so that we can spur the county’s economic growth and development, and above all bolster the international links in with our country,” Nyaribo stated.

Hulda, in her remarks affirmed that her vision is to support Nyamira county in unlocking its economic potential by investing in education and training so that young people can compete in an ever changing global job market.

She promised to ensure farmers, who are the backbone of the county’s economy are empowered by providing them with better tools, access to knowledge, markets and modern agricultural techniques and equipment to be assured of food security in the county and export surplus to people in the diaspora.

“I shall closely collaborate in supporting our small businesses, because they are the engines of economic growth and I promise to work with Governor Nyaribo, to make sure that we are supporting all small businesses to boost the economy of our county and country,” Hulda promised.

Momanyi reiterated that youth empowerment is close to her heart because the youth are gearing up for leadership tomorrow. She pledged to work closely with the leadership of the day to open up opportunities for young people, who have the potential and capability of turning the world upside down in matters development.

She said she is willing to support the youth in art, sports, technology entrepreneurship but without leaving out women because they are the heartbeat of their communities. She promised to invest in programmes that uplift women to build stronger families and communities.

“Nyamira county is not just an economic hub, but has untapped potential in its rich cultural heritage and treasure. Our tradition, our language and way of life makes us unique and is reason enough to be celebrated. We must therefore preserve and celebrate our culture, creating adequate spaces where our children can learn about our history and traditions because only then, can we preserve our roots and knowledge of our origin for generations ahead even though we have highly embraced modernity

She affirmed her commitment to working in collaboration with all leaders in Nyamira County and beyond, saying it’s when all are united in one accord that they can achieve great plans of development.

Hulda promised a proper home-coming party once she is sworn in next month.
