Gem and Ugenya members of parliament have called on leaders and the government to put to an end the culture of political violence that was denying Kenyans the chance to exercise their democratic rights.
Elisha Odhiambo, the MP for Gem and David Ochieng, his Ugenya counterpart said it was disheartening that innocent Kenyans, including a member of parliament were injured during the just concluded by elections just because of political intolerance.
They were speaking at the Siaya national polytechnic grounds in Siaya town during a funds drive in aid of the Seventh Day Adventist church.
“Kasipul requires a special prayer,” said Odhiambo adding “it does not help to beat up people, especially an elected MP”.
The Gem legislator however said that the outcome of the by elections, where Orange Democratic movement and UDA clinched most of the seats proved that William Ruto was the political supremo in Kenya.
“The outcome of the by elections showed that the country does not want tribalists,” he said.
His Ugenya counterpart, David Ochieng said politics was about the people adding that the country should not entertain political violence.
Ochieng called on Nyanza residents to vest their future hopes of ascending to the country’s leadership on president William Ruto.
“Let us help him get the second term,” said Ochieng.
