Nyandarua expands access to clean water

Nyandarua County has recorded a significant improvement in access to clean and safe water, with coverage rising from 40 percent to approximately 58 percent over the last three years.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Matura Water Project and the issuance of assorted accessories and pipes to support ongoing reticulation works in Rurii Ward, Ol Kalou Sub-County, Governor Kiarie Badilisha said the county is on course to achieve even higher coverage.

He noted that upon completion of ongoing water projects, access is expected to reach about 65 percent.

The Governor emphasized that the expanded water connectivity has not only enabled more households to access clean drinking water but has also enhanced economic opportunities.

He observed that reliable water supply has empowered farmers to embrace irrigation, thereby boosting agricultural productivity and household incomes.

Once complete, the Matura Water Project is set to benefit more than 500 households with clean piped water.

The project will also serve key public institutions, including Matura Dispensary and the local primary school, improving access to essential services.

Area residents welcomed the initiative, noting that the improved water supply will ease the burden of trekking long distances in search of water while contributing to better health, sanitation, and overall quality of life.
