Omollo warns political leaders against incitement, calls for unity

Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has issued a stern warning to political leaders against incitement and divisive utterances, urging restraint and responsibility during public gatherings.

Speaking on Saturday in Seme, Kisumu County, during the burial of the father to Seme MP, Dr. James Nyikal, the PS cautioned that careless political utterances risk fuelling tensions and undermining peace within communities.

The PS emphasised that leaders must exercise decorum, particularly at solemn events such as funerals, and avoid turning them into platforms for political confrontation.

“Leaders must be mindful of their words and actions. We cannot allow gatherings meant to unite families and communities in grief to be turned into arenas of political hostility,” he said.

Omollo warned that security agencies are closely monitoring public engagements and will take firm action against individuals found culpable of incitement or disruption of public order.

“We will not hesitate to act within the law against anyone who seeks to incite violence or disturb peace. Maintaining stability is a shared responsibility,” he added.

His remarks come against the backdrop of heightened political activity across the country, with authorities raising concern over increasing cases of inflammatory statements and goonism during public forums.

The PS called on Kenyans to remain vigilant and reject leaders who promote community rivalry and divisions, urging communities to prioritise development and peaceful coexistence.

“Peace begins with each one of us. Let us refuse to be used to spread hatred or create conflict among ourselves,” he said.

Local leaders present at the ceremony echoed Omollo’s sentiments, calling for unity and respect among political actors as the country navigates a politically charged period.
