Over 1,000 residents in Loitoktok have benefited from a free medical camp courtesy of a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Action in Focus.
While addressing the media during the medical camp held at Kimana, Loitoktok Sub County, Calvin Oyamo, a staff working with the NGO Action in Focus said the purpose of the medical camp was to bring health services closer to the people.
Oyamo who is also the Organising Secretary Kenya Pharmaceutical Association (KPA), Nairobi Branch noted that many residents are sickly and unable to access treatment and drugs.
He particularly noted that the problem has been escalated by the ongoing food crisis which has led to malnutrition and low levels of hygiene due to lack of water.
Oyamo said they have partnered with the County Government of Kajiado in providing assorted drugs for various ailments which are affecting the local residents.
The KPA organizing secretary said the camp has revealed that the residents in Loitoktok are having problem of Trachoma, an eye infection which is prevalent in the region. He called upon other stakeholders to chip in and help the needy residents in terms of treatment and provision of relief food.
John Parit, Founder of Hype Beyond, a Non-Governmental Organization dealing with welfare of the girl child, appreciated the medical camp saying that many of the residents are facing malnutrition and other related ailments as an effect of the drought.
Parit who is also a local leader called upon other well-wishers to come on board and help in cushioning the residents against the harsh effects of the drought.
Penina Wairimu, one of the beneficiaries of the medical camp lauded the organizers for reaching out to ailing residents.
Wairimu urged other stakeholders especially the County Government of Kajiado to fast track provision of relief food to suffering residents.
