Parents Block Deputy Head Teacher From Gaining Entry Into School

Busia, Wednesday, February 21, 2018 KNA

Parents from St. Andrews Mundere Primary school in Bunyala North Ward on Wednesday, Feb. 21. blocked a newly posted teacher from accessing the school compound.

Led by Thomas Okello, Solomon Mukoya and Lilian Taaka, irate parents almost set ablaze a motor bike which had ferried the teacher Esther Makhulo to the school.

Speaking to the press in Bunyala on Wednesday, Okello alleged that Mrs. Makhulo was very arrogant.

“I have been a parent in this school for more than 15 years and the truth is that the teacher’s performance is poor, she is arrogant, non-cooperative and we cannot allow a teacher who orders the office to manage our school,” he said.

He urged the Bunyala Sub County Education officials to explain to them why the teacher has been transferred to different schools within three months.

The parents further expressed their willingness to accommodate any other teacher instead of this particular one.

They vowed to camp at the school to ensure that the teacher does not access the institution.

However Bunyala Sub County Quality Assurance Officer Karren Omuoth urged the parents to give room for pupils to continue with their learning.

Omuoth assured the parents that their grievances will be handled by the relevant Education officers.
