Sammy Omollo named SportPesa League coach of the month of April

APS Bomet Head Coach, Sammy Omollo, popularly known as ‘Pamzo’ has been named the SportPesa League Coach of the Month for April after guiding his side through an impressive run of form.

The former Kenyan international has overseen a remarkable resurgence at APS Bomet, steering the club through a difficult phase of the season with discipline, resilience, and consistency.

The award comes during an emotional period for Omollo following the death of his wife earlier this year.

Receiving the award on Mother’s Day, May 10 in Nairobi the tactician delivered a heartfelt tribute, dedicating the accolade to his late wife while acknowledging the support of his family and his team

“Today being Mother’s Day, I want to dedicate this award to my beloved wife. She was an inspiration to me and supported me throughout my coaching journey. I miss her, and this award is for her,” said Omollo after receiving his customized trophy and Sh 75,000 from league sponsors SportPesa.

On the field, APS Bomet enjoyed a perfect April campaign, winning all three of their league matches against Sofapaka, Ulinzi Stars, and Posta Rangers, Omollo’s former club while keeping clean sheets in each fixture.

Despite the team’s strong performances, Omollo remained cautious about the task ahead as APS Bomet continue their fight to maintain top flight status.

“We know there’s still work to do to secure safety, so I’m challenging the boys to keep working hard. There is still a lot of football to play, and anything can happen,” he added.

APS Bomet have since extended their impressive run to five consecutive victories and are now unbeaten in eight matches.

Their recent 2-0 away win over Mathare United has significantly boosted their survival hopes.

Head coach of Mara Sugar Francis Xavier finished as runner-up for the monthly award after guiding his side to three wins from four matches.
