Six perish in a grisly road accident in Kericho

Six people perished Monday night in a tragic road accident at Duka Moja area near Kericho town when a Probox vehicle they were traveling in collided head on with a truck along Kericho Nakuru highway.

Confirming the incident, Kericho East Sub County Police Commander Peter Mutuma said two people who sustained injuries in the 7:30 pm accident were recuperating at the Kericho County Referral Hospital.

The police boss said it was raining heavily at the time of the accident that claimed the lives of three males and three females along the busy highway.

According to witnesses, the Mitsubishi truck was heading towards Kericho town while the Probox vehicle was heading to Nakuru when the head on collision happened.

In a statement, Kericho County Governor Dr. Eric Mutai has called for vigilance and road discipline from all road users especially during the rainy season inhibiting clear vision on the roads.

“I wish a quick recovery to the injured and to those we have unfortunately lost, I send my heartfelt condolences to their families. We shall emphatically support where possible all the affected families cope with the unfortunate incident,” said Dr. Mutai.

Kericho County Senator Aaron Cheruiyot urged the passenger service vehicles, pedestrians and other road users to be tolerant, extra vigilant and adhere to the traffic rules and regulations at all times, especially during the rainy season, to avert such incidents.

“I offer my heartfelt sympathies to the families that lost their loved ones. I also extend my sympathies to those that are nursing various degrees of injuries at various hospitals and wish them swiftest recovery,” he said.
