Turkana County Government has launched an emergency care and response partnership with Ambulex Solutions, marking a significant step towards strengthening emergency medical services across the region.
The collaboration was unveiled during a courtesy call on Chief Officer for Medical Services Dr. Gilchrist Lokoel by a delegation led by Ambulex’s Public Sector Partnerships and Scale Lead, Boniface Owuor.
Unlike previous standalone pilot programmes, the initiative is designed to embed operational, budget-linked emergency medical services directly into the County Government’s public health system.
“This initiative aims to integrate operational, budget-linked emergency medical services into the County Government’s public health system, rather than relying on standalone pilots,” Owuor said.
Dr. Lokoel welcomed the move, describing it as a calculated effort to enhance pre-hospital and hospital referral services within defined timelines.
“By enhancing the local healthcare infrastructure, the partnership seeks to ensure that reliable medical emergency care and technology are readily available to all residents, particularly those in remote and underserved areas,” he said.
The rollout is scheduled for July 2026, when a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is expected to be finalised. This will be followed by Basic and Advanced Life Support training for paramedics and the emergency medical services (EMS) team.
Both parties also agreed to adopt a tech-enabled dispatch model aimed at streamlining communication and extending timely, life-saving support to hard-to-reach communities.
Turkana becomes the eighth county to join Ambulex’s ongoing national expansion programme to strengthen emergency medical services across Kenya.
The meeting was attended by the County Government’s EMS team and other representatives.
