Uasin Gishu County Government has celebrated Chepsaita Secondary School and Soin Junior Secondary School following their outstanding performance at the 2026 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games held in Morogoro, Tanzania.
Soin Junior School girls’ volleyball team emerged champions after an unbeaten campaign in which they won all six matches, while ACK Chepsaita Secondary School finished runners-up in boys’ volleyball, securing silver medals in their debut appearance at the regional competition.
The two schools, both from Turbo Sub-County, were received during a colourful ceremony at the Uasin Gishu County headquarters in Eldoret on Tuesday, attended by education stakeholders, coaches and county and national government officials.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim congratulated the teams for raising the county and national flags at the regional competition and pledged increased county support for sports development.
Bii said the county would consider allocating additional resources towards training coaches and nurturing young sporting talent to ensure that more learners get opportunities to compete at higher levels.
The FEASSSA Games concluded on August 23, 2026, in Morogoro, bringing together schools from across East Africa for competition in various sporting disciplines.
Turbo Member of Parliament Janet Sitienei congratulated the two schools, saying their achievements had brought pride to the constituency, Uasin Gishu County and Kenya at large.
Sitienei praised the players and their coaches for their discipline, determination and commitment, saying their success demonstrated the potential of young people when given opportunities to develop their talents.
“We need to congratulate you and honour you. We know the sky is not the limit. You are going to go far,” she said.
She noted that the teams returned with trophies, gold medals and other honours, describing the achievements as a demonstration of the learners’ hard work and dedication.
“I want to celebrate you and honour you for making your choice through your skills. You have come back and brought us very great things—the cups, the gold and all the medals that you have gotten,” said Sitienei.
The legislator said the athletes had also made the country’s leadership proud by demonstrating Kenya’s potential in sports.
“On behalf of the President of the Republic of Kenya, I want to say that you have made him proud. We want to thank you for your achievements,” she said.
Sitienei urged the young athletes to remain focused and disciplined despite their success, encouraging them to work harder as they pursue greater achievements in their sporting careers.
She said the constituency would continue supporting and recognising talented young people, adding that the success of Chepsaita Secondary and Soin Junior School should inspire other learners to pursue excellence in both sports and academics.
Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr Eddyson Nyale also attended the ceremony and encouraged the teams to maintain the same spirit that enabled them to excel in sports and academics.
Parents also gave the returning champions a colourful welcome, presenting them with milk and adorning them with Sinendet, a sacred and flexible climbing vine revered in Kalenjin culture as a symbol of victory, honour and blessings.
During the ceremony, Governor Bii received the county flag that had been carried by the Chepsaita Secondary and Soin Junior School teams during their participation in the FEASSSA Games in Tanzania.
