Kisumu Governor, Prof Anyang Nyong’o, has appointed former Moi University don, Dr. Boaz Otieno, as the new County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Health.
Dr. Otieno, a long serving Associate Professor at Moi University School of Health Sciences is currently the Associate Director for Programs at the Western Kenya Centre for Disease Control (CDC).
He is a Consultant Obstetrician-Gynecologist and Public Health practitioner, researcher, leader in Reproductive Health, educationist and program specialist.
If approved by the County Assembly, Dr. Otieno, will take over the sensitive docket, which is currently held by Governor Nyong’o after immediate former CEC, Prof Miguda Attyang, was transferred to the Cooperatives docket.
Dr. Otieno is expected to steer the health sector amidst Covid -19 fears and the persistent unrest amongst health workers in the County.
The workers, who last year downed their tools twice are dissatisfied with operations in the docket which has seen their promotions and salaries delayed.
The unrest has affected service delivery in the sector leading to loss of lives.
