The Eye Clinic at Vihiga County Referral Hospital has significantly improved access to eye care services, since its establishment in 2023.
Equipped with modern facilities and supported by a team of more than 20 trained professionals, the clinic attends to an average of 250 patients every month, offering specialized treatment for various eye conditions.
Beyond hospital-based care, the clinic has also extended its services through outreach programmes in health facilities across the county, focusing on education, training, and early diagnosis of eye problems.
The county has also benefited from past collaborations, notably through the Vision Impact Project Kenya in partnership with Christian Blind Mission and Sabatia Eye Hospital.
This joint initiative witnessed screening of more than 3,700 patients, culminating in over 1,200 surgeries for complicated eye problems, before its conclusion in June this year.
The Eye Clinic is part of ongoing efforts to make quality healthcare more accessible and equitable for all residents of Vihiga, courtesy of the county leadership under governor Dr. Wilber Ottichillo.
