Relatives of two people killed after criminals who invaded their Kamwimbi home in Igambang’ombe Sub County, Tharaka Nithi County, recently want security agencies to expedite investigations and apprehend those responsible.
Speaking at Chuka County Referral Hospital after postmortem examinations were conducted on the bodies of the deceased, Vivian Nyawira, daughter of one of the victims, expressed frustrations over the slow pace of investigations despite what she described as leads that could help identify the suspects.
“We are living in fear. Some family members have been forced to leave their homes, while our children’s education has been disrupted because of security concerns,” she said.
Nyawira appealed to security agencies to fast-track investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice, adding that the family’s quest for justice requires the support of leaders and the wider community. She claimed that some of the suspected perpetrators continue to move freely within the community, heightening fears among family members.
Her sentiments were echoed by another family member, Boniface Njue, who urged authorities to ensure those behind the attack are arrested and prosecuted.
Responding to the concerns, Tharaka Nithi County Police Commander Zaccheus Ng’eno assured the family that investigations were ongoing and that detectives were pursuing crucial leads.
Ng’eno said investigators had analyzed evidence collected from the scene and were working to build a strong case capable of meeting the prosecutorial threshold.
“We understand the family’s concerns, but investigations must be thorough. Arresting suspects without sufficient evidence could compromise the case. We are confident that the ongoing investigations will yield positive results,” said Ng’eno.
The county police commander further assured the family and residents of adequate security during the burial ceremony scheduled for Thursday, June 4.
The victims were killed on the evening of May 21. The attackers also left two other people critically injured.
The attack shocked residents and prompted calls for enhanced security in the area.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with police expressing confidence that those responsible will eventually be brought to justice.
