Kwale police kill man after knife attack

Police in Kwale have shot dead a man suspected to be a thief at Mwambeni area of Matuga Sub County.

The deceased is said to have attacked police officers who were on foot patrol with a knife after they ordered him to stop.

Matuga Sub County Police Commander Gababa Darso confirmed the incident that happened on Thursday afternoon.

“Police officers who were on patrol attempted to stop the middle aged man who looked suspicious but removed a knife from his waistband and started attacking them,” said Darso.

“He refused to stop when asked so and removed a knife and started charging at them when they shot at him,” he said.

He said police were investigating the incident, adding that no police officer was injured in the confrontation.

Darso said when the man refused to stop an officer fired once, striking the man who fell dead at the scene.
