More than 450 young people from Narok County have been trained on a new digital registration system designed to enhance transparency and inclusivity in youth leadership elections.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Narok County Youth Directorate in partnership with the Department of ICT and E-Government, aims to establish a verified and secure online database of youth members under the Narok County Youth Alliance (NCYA).
The digital platform will enable youth across all wards in the county to register as NCYA members conveniently from their phones or computers. The training was expected to streamline the electoral process and serve as the official register for future NCYA elections.
Speaking during the training, Narok County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for ICT and E-Government Linus Nairimo praised the system as a major milestone in digital governance and youth empowerment.
“This platform is more than just a registration tool. It is a gateway to inclusive governance. It ensures that every eligible young person can participate in electing their leaders in a fair, transparent, and accountable manner,” said Nairimo.
He emphasised that technology should be harnessed to break down barriers that often exclude youth from meaningful participation in democratic processes.
Also addressing the attendees, CECM for Education and Youth, Robert Simotwo, commended the NCYA interim leadership for promoting regional balance and independence by establishing a neutral electoral team.
“This system gives young people the power to organise, register, and elect their leaders with integrity,” Simotwo stated. “I urge all youth across the county to make full use of this innovation. Your voice and vote matter,” he added.
The training workshop marks the beginning of a broader digital transformation agenda targeting young people in Narok, with plans underway to integrate additional services into the platform.
County officials expressed optimism that the verified database would not only support credible youth elections but also help in designing programmes tailored to the actual needs and demographics of the youth population.
