Siaya County breaks ground for new municipality offices

The County Government of Siaya has officially broken ground for the construction of new municipal offices in Siaya Township Ward, Alego Usonga Constituency.

This marks a significant milestone in the county’s ongoing efforts to strengthen urban governance and enhance service delivery to its residents.

The event presided over by the Siaya County Governor James Orengo brought together county officials, members of the Siaya County Municipal Board and residents who gathered to witness the historic moment in Siaya Town.

The tender for the construction works was awarded to Abelard Enterprises Limited.

The new municipal offices will house key departments under the municipality, offering a one-stop centre for citizens seeking government services within town.

This is part of the Governor’s broader vision to centralise services and enhance public access to the county’s departments.

Siaya Township Ward Member of the County Assembly, Obiero Otare, lauded the governor for cascading development to his ward.

“This is a big project which is going to open up Siaya Town and enable us to have offices and even halls to hold our meetings in,” said Obiero.

Otare also promised to work together with the newly appointed Municipal Board members led by their Chairperson Dr. Winnie Awuor, to ensure efficient service delivery to the people of Siaya.

Governor Orengo expressed his satisfaction with the developmental projects taking place in Siaya, stating that he was keeping his promise of improving the status of Siaya Town and the county at large.

He also mentioned some of the key developments coming in Siaya, including collaboration with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to improve the infrastructures within Siaya, including the improvement of Siaya County Referral Hospital and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium phase two which requires upgrade and completion.

“We need to have referral hospitals so that our people can access treatment here in Siaya instead of being referred to Kakamega, Kisumu and Eldoret Referral Hospitals,” said Governor Orengo.

Among the county officials present at the function were Maurice Otieno (County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands and Urban Developments Maurice Otieno, CECM Agriculture and Fisheries Okoth Sylvester and CECM Water, Irrigation, Environment, Climate change and Natural resources Jacklyn Oduol.
