MR, typhoid jabs begin across Narok County

Narok County has officially launched measles-rubella (MR) and Typhoid Conjugate Vaccines (TCV) for children to guard them against preventable diseases.

The campaign, which began Sunday, will run until Monday, July 14, 2025, and aims to immunise children against the two preventable diseases.

Children aged 9 months to 5 years will receive the MR vaccine, while those aged 9 months to 14 years will be administered the TCV vaccine.

Speaking during the official flag-off ceremony held in Narok Town, Assistant County Commissioner Brian Kivuti, who represented the County Commissioner, emphasised the importance of the campaign in protecting the health and future of the county’s children.

“This vaccination campaign is a crucial step in safeguarding our children from diseases that are not only preventable but potentially fatal if ignored. We urge parents and guardians to take advantage of this opportunity and ensure their children are vaccinated,” said Kivuti.

The exercise will be conducted in all health facilities across the county, as well as through temporary outreach sites including schools, churches, and market centres to ensure maximum coverage and convenience for families.

Chief Officer for Clinical Services Jane Kiok reiterated the county’s commitment to improving child health through preventive care and community engagement.

“Vaccines save lives. “This integrated campaign demonstrates our dedication to ensuring that no child in Narok is left behind when it comes to access to life-saving immunisation services,” said Kiok, adding, “We are working closely with communities to ensure that all targeted children are reached, especially in hard-to-reach areas.”

The countrywide integrated approach is expected to boost immunity among children, reduce the burden of disease, and support national public health goals.

Health workers have already been deployed and sensitisation efforts are underway to educate the public about the importance of vaccination and the safety of the vaccines being administered.

Residents are encouraged to visit the nearest health facility or outreach site to have their children vaccinated before the campaign concludes.
