Migori rolls out lifesaving immunization campaign

Migori Chief Officer for Public Health and Sanitation, Ms Mable Chanzu, has called upon county residents to take their children for the Typhoid Vaccine (TCV) and Measles Rubella Vaccine (MR) to protect their loved ones and reduce child mortality.

Speaking during the Typhoid Vaccine (TCV) and Measles Rubella Vaccine (MR) Campaign in Awendo Sub County, Chanzu said that the campaign will incorporate education stakeholders to facilitate access to vaccinate school-going children.

The drive aims to immunise children against typhoid and measles, two avoidable yet potentially deadly diseases. The Typhoid Vaccine (TCV) provides long-lasting protection against typhoid fever, which can cause severe illness, especially in areas with limited access to clean water and sanitation.

The County Official explained that the Measles Rubella Vaccine (MR) helps prevent outbreaks of measles, a highly contagious disease that can lead to complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis, and death.

“Together, these vaccines are vital in reducing child mortality, improving health outcomes, and strengthening community immunity,” said Chanzu.

She emphasised the importance of working with the education sector to ensure children are vaccinated against typhoid to achieve 100 per cent campaign success.

“This high-level engagement underscores the importance of the campaign in improving child health across the forty wards,” said Chanzu.

She thanked the involvement of local leadership and partners like the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and Lwala Community Alliance as instrumental Organisations in reaching every child in Migori with these life-saving vaccines.

Chanzu emphasised that County leadership was taking a strong step towards a healthier future, protecting children from preventable diseases and ensuring their right to good health for every resident.
