Vulnerable families in Limuru receive relief food

Residents of Limuru Constituency from vulnerable households have been visiting various relief food distribution centres in recent days after the government rolled out a relief food distribution exercise targeting them.

The exercise, spearheaded by area Member of Parliament John Kiragu Chege, has seen hundreds of families receive essential food supplies, offering a temporary cushion to households struggling to make ends meet, a situation aggravated by the rising cost of living and erratic weather patterns.

The distribution has been ongoing across different wards within the constituency, giving priority to the most affected areas.

The initiative has particularly targeted regions such as Ndeiya, which has unfortunately perennially faced hardships.

Speaking during one of the distribution exercises in the Rironi area, Limuru central ward, the MP emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring that no family goes hungry, noting that the programme is part of broader interventions aimed at cushioning Kenyans from economic shocks.

Residents who turned up at the centres expressed relief, saying the food donations would go a long way in supporting their families. Many cited high food prices and reduced household incomes as major challenges that have made it difficult to afford basic necessities.

“We are grateful for this support because things have not been easy. Even getting daily meals has become a challenge,” said Muthoni Waweru at a distribution centre in Ndeiya.

The relief food programme comes at a time when many parts of the country are grappling with food insecurity linked to unpredictable weather patterns and economic strain.

Local leaders have been working closely with national government agencies to identify the most vulnerable households and ensure equitable distribution of the supplies.

In Limuru, the exercise has been coordinated through grassroots structures, including local administrators and community leaders, to enhance transparency and efficiency. Volunteers have also played a key role in managing crowds and ensuring orderly distribution.

MP John Kiragu has, in recent months, maintained an active presence on the ground, engaging residents through development initiatives and social support programmes.

His office has indicated that the relief food distribution will continue in phases to reach more households across the constituency.

Local authorities have urged residents to remain patient and cooperative as the exercise progresses, assuring them that efforts are being made to cover all affected areas.

The ongoing distribution underscores the critical role of coordinated government interventions in addressing immediate humanitarian needs, even as longer-term solutions to food security and economic stability continue to be pursued.

As the programme unfolds, many families in Limuru remain hopeful that such initiatives will not only provide short-term relief but also pave the way for more sustainable support systems in the future.
