Seven people died last evening in a grisly road crash at Nairega along the Mai Mahiu–Narok highway.
The victims perished on the spot after a head-on collision between a Toyota Voxy they were travelling in and a Mercedes-Benz Axor truck.
According to Narok County Police Commander Patrick Lobolia, the accident occurred at around 6:30 pm when the Mai Mahiu-bound truck reportedly lost control and veered into the opposite lane, ramming into the oncoming Voxy vehicle.
“All the occupants of the Voxy died on the spot due to the impact,” said Lobolia, describing the incident as unfortunate and avoidable.
The bodies of the deceased, three women and four men, have since been moved to the Narok County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem examinations.
The truck driver sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the same facility.
Police have since towed the wreckage to Ntulele Police Station as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
Lobolia urged motorists to exercise caution, adhere to traffic rules, and remain vigilant on the roads to help prevent further loss of life.
