The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson, Gladys Wanga, has reassure the public that the Party Leader, Dr Oburu Oginga, was in good health, amid growing speculation over his two-week absence from the public limelight and political stage.
Speaking in Nyando Constituency, Kisumu County on during a visit to condole with the area Member of Parliament (MP), Jared Okello, following the demise of his mother, Mama Doris Okello, Wanga castigated the critics speculating Oburu’s condition.
The Homa-bay County Governor clarified that Dr Oburu’s absence from the party’s retreat in Mombasa early in the week, was due to ill-health and was undergoing treatment.
“Dr Oburu has fully recovered and is currently strong and in stable condition. He is in pure and good health here in Kisumu County,” she asserted.
Wanga’s remarks came shortly after Dr Oburu had posted on his social media platforms, confirming that he is in good health and was playing golf with friends in Kisumu County.
“Thank you for your concerns about my whereabouts. I am here in Kisumu, very vibrant, up and about playing golf and I wish all of you a very happy weekend,” Dr Oburu said in a video posted on his social media account.
Wanga apportioned blame on Siaya Governor James Orengo, accusing him of creating disunity within the ODM Party.
“A veteran party figure with deep knowledge of its inner workings, has now stepped forward and pronounced himself as the Party Leader. How do you become the Party Leader, yet the delegates have duly elected Dr Oburu as the Party Leader. This joke we are not going to allow,” she warned.
Wanga noted that the motive is to create confusion within the Party to divide its members and weaken its solidarity.
She urged local leaders to remain firm in defending the ODM party and work together to unite residents, to avoid becoming a laughing stock.
“The region has reaped a lot of benefits under the Broad-based government and we want to continue staying in government. Those telling us about one term, we don’t want to listen to them,” she said.
