An adult lioness was speared to death on Wednesday after attacking herders and livestock in the Emparinkoi area within Kitenden Conservancy in Kajiado South Constituency.
According to Amboseli Conservation Area Chief Park Warden, Joel Ole Nyika, the lioness first attacked and killed two sheep before turning on a herder who attempted to stop the attack, inflicting serious injuries.
Two other people who rushed to assist were also attacked and injured by the lioness during the incident.
Rangers from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) responded swiftly and evacuated the injured persons to Enkong’u Narok Dispensary for first aid before they were transferred to Oloitokitok Sub-County Hospital for further treatment.
The lioness was later speared to death by agitated community members at the scene, following the attack.
Chief Warden Nyika is urging residents to avoid retaliatory attacks against wildlife, particularly the poisoning of predators.
Instead, Nyika encouraged communities to report all human-wildlife conflict incidents to KWS offices for prompt response and compensation procedures.
