The government will construct a Huduma Centre at Shaviringa, the administrative headquarters of Tiriki East Sub-County, Vihiga County, aimed at bringing services closer to the people.
Public Service and Human Capital Development PS Dr. Jane Imbunya, speaking at Bumuyange Primary School during celebrations to mark Madaraka Day celebrations, revealed that they would be laying the foundation stone for the facility next week to enhance government services.
Dr. Imbunya said that the upcoming Huduma Centre will provide essential services, including virtual courts, whereby residents who are required to attend courts that are far away can have their court sessions booked at the Huduma Centre for virtual attendance.
The PS hailed the government for major development programmes achieved in Tiriki East, citing leading educational institutions like Kaimosi Friends University and Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic.
Consequently, she urged residents to take advantage of the existing solid education infrastructure in the area and take their children to school, noting that education remains the great equalizer.
In his address, Hamisi MP Charles Gimose addressed security issues in Kaimosi, where he noted that Cheptulu police station will receive a vehicle that would help in enforcing security in the area.
He also reiterated his support for the government of the day, urging the residents to follow suit.
Tiriki East Deputy County Commissioner Michael Too, speaking at the event, acknowledged the government’s efforts in uplifting local educational institutions, saying this had created an opportunity for children to better uplift their lives and ultimately that of the community.
“The government has also commissioned Serem Market and Cheptulu Markets, both of which will greatly assist our traders and farmers to sell their produce,” he said.
The government was also putting a tarmac road from Shamakhokho through Museno to Kakamega, a road that would open up new markets for farmers to sell their produce.
At the same time, the government is training and funding our youths to start their own businesses through the Nyota Project, including a convention last Saturday at the Kaimosi National Polytechnic, where they were trained on how to conduct their businesses,” highlighted Too.
Equally, the government is creating employment through the Ajira Majuu programme, where the youth are being recruited to go work abroad in places like Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
The DCC also reiterated the government’s efforts in helping farmers through the availability of affordable fertilizers at the price of Sh2500 per 50 kilogram bag.
In Sabatia subcounty, residents gathered at Tsimbalo Primary School to celebrate Madaraka Day through entertainment and discussions on the way forward for the community.
The Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Festus Munyao, issued a stern warning against the selling and consumption of illegal brews, while directly linking the menace to a disturbing increase in criminal offences within the region.
The Sabatia subcounty civil registrar, Edwin Nganga, sensitized the people on the need for birth and death registration certificates.
Residents of Luanda Sub County also converged at Hobunaka Grounds in Luanda Constituency to commemorate the 63rd Madaraka Day celebrations under the theme “Education, Skills, and the Future.”
The event, hosted by Luanda Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mary Awino, brought together various government administrators, security officers, representatives of elected leaders, special interest groups, and members of the public to reflect on national progress and discuss key issues affecting the community.
In her address, Awino commended the area residents for their cooperation and support in maintaining peace within the sub-county.
However, the DCC raised concern over persistent cases of insecurity and defilement, particularly involving some youth.
She singled out cases involving rogue boda boda operators accused of theft, violent crime, motorcycle trafficking, and participation in disruptive processions that interfere with public order and transport operations.
Awino said law enforcement agencies had intensified surveillance and operations across the area, and those individuals found engaging in criminal activities would face the full force of the law.
