Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr. Eddyson Nyale has urged residents of Kesses Sub-County to embrace unity, hard work, and self-reliance as key drivers of development while assuring them of enhanced security measures aimed at protecting communities and supporting economic growth.
Speaking during Madaraka Day celebrations at Tarakwa Primary School, Dr. Nyale said meaningful development can only be achieved when communities work together harmoniously.
He called on residents to put aside differences and focus on initiatives that improve livelihoods and create opportunities for future generations.
The County Commissioner emphasized that unity remains a critical ingredient in accelerating development projects and addressing challenges facing local communities.
He urged residents to support one another and participate actively in programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the region.
Addressing the youth, Dr. Nyale challenged them to move away from the culture of dependency and stop expecting handouts from leaders and politicians.
Instead, he encouraged them to embrace hard work, innovation, and entrepreneurship as pathways to success.
Security featured prominently in his address, where he assured residents that efforts to improve security across the area would continue to be strengthened.
He said the government remains committed to safeguarding lives and property while creating an environment conducive to investment, business growth, and community development.
He emphasized that peace and security are fundamental to development, noting that no meaningful progress can be achieved in areas affected by crime and insecurity.
He called on residents to work closely with security agencies and support efforts aimed at maintaining law and order.
He issued a stern warning to youths against engaging in theft during political rallies and public gatherings, expressing concern over incidents where some young people take advantage of crowded political events to steal from politicians and other attendees.
He warned that such criminal activities not only damage the reputation of the community but also expose those involved to arrest and prosecution.
The County Commissioner urged the youth to reject criminal behaviour and instead channel their energy towards productive ventures that can improve their lives and contribute positively to society.
The CC reiterated that success should be earned through honest work and determination rather than through unlawful means, adding that discipline and integrity remain essential values for personal and community development.
“Uasin Gishu County is peaceful through the collaboration between national and county government led by the governor, and we shall not be happy to hear any kind of hate speech that aims to bring division among the residents of this county,” noted Dr. Nyale.
He noted that young people possess enormous potential to transform their lives and contribute to the growth of their communities if they take advantage of available opportunities and remain committed to productive activities.
To support youth empowerment, Dr. Nyale pledged to work closely with young people interested in small-scale development projects, particularly in agriculture. He said his office was ready to facilitate access to coffee and avocado seedlings for youth groups willing to venture into farming and other income-generating activities.
According to the County Commissioner, agriculture remains one of the most viable sectors for creating jobs and generating wealth. He encouraged young people to view farming as a business and take advantage of available resources to build sustainable livelihoods.
