Learners, teachers, parents and local leaders at Ebusiratsi A.C. Comprehensive School have received a major boost after Luanda Constituency Member of Parliament (MP), Dick Maungu, officially handed over two newly constructed classrooms, aimed at improving the learning environment at the institution.
The project is expected to significantly ease congestion in the school, which has a student population of more than 400 learners, and provide additional space for effective teaching and learning.
Speaking today during the handover ceremony, Maungu reaffirmed his commitment to improving education infrastructure across the Constituency, noting that investing in education is an investment in future generations.
He emphasized that the school modernization programme under his leadership goes beyond the construction of new classrooms, as both newly built and renovated learning facilities are being fitted with terrazzo floors, plastered walls and quality paint to create a conducive learning environment for learners.
“Education remains one of the strongest pillars of development. By improving our schools, we are empowering our children and securing a better future for our communities,” he said.
The legislator raised concern over the increasing cases of defilement reported in the area, strongly condemning the vice and calling upon parents and guardians to take a more active role in protecting children and safeguarding their welfare.
He also expressed concern over rising insecurity, particularly the continued attacks and killings of boda boda riders, urging security agencies and community members to work together in addressing the challenge and enhancing safety.
Maungu announced that Ebulonga Secondary School is set to receive a new school bus in August this year, a move expected to improve mobility and support co-curricular activities for students.
In commemoration of World Environment Day, the MP joined learners, teachers and other leaders in planting trees within the school compound as part of efforts to promote environmental conservation and increase tree cover in the constituency.
The event brought together several leaders and stakeholders, including nominated Members of the County Assembly, Rita Atieno and Truphena Anyola, Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs from Luanda Constituency, and Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) delegates led by their Chairman, Johnson Malenya.
School administrators and parents lauded the initiative, noting that the additional classrooms will help improve learning conditions and accommodate the growing student population.
The handover marks another milestone in the Maungu’s ongoing efforts to transform educational institutions within Luanda Constituency through improved infrastructure and enhanced learning facilities.
