Club calls for partnerships to support underprivileged learners

The Rotary Club of Nanyuki has called on all organizations of goodwill to establish a partnership in support of underprivileged learners in Laikipia County.

Speaking in Nanyuki during the installation of new club president, Alex Kamau, on Saturday, the Rotarians noted that the majority of students dropped out of school due to lack of support, where they revealed that under their club they had a scholarship fund, but it was not sufficient to cover all deserving students across the county.

Kamau said that they were focused on broadening their educational kitty for needy learners for a lasting impact among the students.

“We are going forward in deepening our scholarship fund to take more kids to school; our theme is to create lasting impact, and education is the best way in ensuring our community is safeguarded,” said the Rotarian president.

Kamau highlighted that his commitment and focus as the president for the next one year will be promoting the Rotary Club of Nanyuki to greater heights through partnerships to better the lives of the locals.

“We need partners for our activities so that we can do good to our communities. I boost visibility of what Rotary is about for more people to join hands,” said Kamau, adding that as a club, their mantra was “service above self.”

According to the outgoing president Becky Ngatia, previously, they had supported the construction and renovation of classrooms in the vast pastoral areas of Laikipia, the planting of over seven thousand trees, and the promotion of hygiene programs.

“Rotary is about coming together; we have guidelines and our areas of focus. Including sustainable waste management and education, for instance, all donations are channeled to our scholarship fund,” said Ms. Ngatia.

Rotary Club Assistant Governor Matt Orcutt, on his part, said that there were over 1.2 million Rotarians on the globe, all geared to supporting local communities through their proposed development projects.

He lauded the new president-elect, noting they were convinced he would take the club to the next level.
“ With the new leadership in place , we will focus on new projects to change our community. The projects undertaken are community led,” said Matt.
