Vihiga County has shown its determination to strengthen community healthcare through increased support for Community Health Promoters (CHPs), who play a crucial role in delivering preventive and primary healthcare services at the grassroots level.
Speaking during an empowerment engagement with community health promoters from Vihiga and Sabatia sub-counties on Sunday, Vihiga Woman Representative Beatrice Adagala emphasized the importance of community-based healthcare in improving health outcomes across the county.
“It was a privilege to host community health promoters from Vihiga and Sabatia sub-counties for an empowerment engagement to strengthen their capacity to serve our people more effectively,” Adagala stated.
Adagala noted that a strong healthcare system begins within homes, villages, and communities, where community health promoters serve as the first point of contact in promoting preventive care and supporting families.
She stated that the empowerment forum aimed at enhancing the capacity of the health promoters to serve residents more effectively, and she also commended the Community Health Promoters (CHPs) for their dedication and commitment to improving public health, describing them as frontline health champions whose efforts deserve recognition and support.
She further assured the participants that the initiative marks the beginning of a broader programme that will soon be expanded to Hamisi, Luanda, and Emuhaya sub-counties.
She said every community health promoter in Vihiga should receive the necessary support and facilitation to effectively carry out their duties.
Adagala also pledged to engage both the county and national governments to advocate for increased support and resources for community health promoters, saying such investments are essential in strengthening healthcare services at the community level.
Addressing the health promoters, Adagala expressed her appreciation for their service, thanking them for their continued commitment to the well-being of the community.
“Community Health Promoters are the foundation of a strong healthcare system, and their contribution to our communities cannot be overlooked,” she said.
Sabatia Constituency Member of Parliament Clement Sloya stated that the program served as an important platform to appreciate the commitment and sacrifice of community health promoters in ensuring that essential healthcare information and services reach every household.
