Kenya’s foreign policy continues to play a pivotal role in promoting regional integration, peace, and economic development.
Deputy Director General for Political and Diplomatic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mustafa Ibrahim, speaking during an engagement with students and faculty members at Strathmore University, outlined Kenya’s evolving foreign policy priorities and highlighted the country’s growing influence in regional and international affairs.
Ibrahim reaffirmed Kenya’s longstanding commitment to democratic governance, sovereign equality, and constructive diplomacy, noting that since independence, the country has consistently pursued policies aimed at fostering peace and stability, strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships, and safeguarding national interests on the global stage.
The deputy director said Kenya has increasingly positioned itself as a key player in peacebuilding, security cooperation, climate action, and economic diplomacy.
He said the country’s active participation in regional and multilateral initiatives demonstrates its commitment to addressing common challenges through collaboration and partnership.
Ibrahim noted that Kenya’s involvement in peace support operations, trade negotiations, and climate advocacy continues to underscore the importance of diplomacy in advancing sustainable development and creating economic opportunities for citizens across Africa.
Looking ahead, Ibrahim emphasized the need to strengthen partnerships within Africa and beyond to accelerate inclusive economic growth and shared prosperity.
He highlighted ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation among regional economic blocs, including the East African Community (EAC), the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Ibrahim stressed the importance of nurturing a new generation of diplomats and foreign policy practitioners capable of advancing Kenya’s strategic interests in an increasingly interconnected global environment.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that foreign policy objectives translate into tangible benefits for citizens through enhanced national development, increased investment opportunities, and a stronger international profile for Kenya.
The engagement formed part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs to foster dialogue with academic institutions and inspire greater interest in diplomacy and international relations among young people.
