Stakeholders validate the medical laboratory strategic plan in Makueni

Stakeholders in the health sector in Makueni County have validated the medical laboratory strategic Plan 2025-2028, which is expected to improve the accuracy, reliability and timeliness of diagnostic services in all health facilities in the area.

Among the partners who met on Tuesday at a hotel in Wote town in Makueni Sub-County were Amref Health Africa, Centre for International Education Bureau (CIHEB), Ministry of Health officials and regulatory bodies.

Speaking during the forum, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Joyce Mutua said laboratories play a central role, saying they need to be efficient and give timely and credible results so that patients get the right treatment, besides accurate prescriptions.

Ms Mutua further said that once the strategic plan is in place, it will guide the county government in providing quality health services, besides strengthening the human resources in the area.

“When the strategic plan is in place, it will guide us on what to do. As a county government, we are committed to improving the quality of service delivery. We must have laboratory results which are credible and timely,” said Mutua while addressing the stakeholders on Wednesday.

While saying the county will prioritize the adoption of innovative technology, the CECM said that they will improve infrastructure in all the 242 health facilities, whereby 87 currently provide laboratory tests.

Also, Mutua emphasized that the county government is committed to training the laboratory personnel and equipping the health facilities.

The CECM lauded the strong support received from partners such as CIHEB, the Ministry of Health, Amref Health Africa and regulatory bodies. The strategic plan will be launched officially soon.

The event was attended by the Chief Officer, Health Services Dr. Harvey Mulei, among others.
