The Department of Roads has completed routine maintenance on the 56-kilometre Kangatotha–Naoros–Lokipetot–Eliye–Kangatotha road in Kangatotha Ward, significantly improving transport connectivity and access to Lake Turkana.
The maintenance works, which included grading and gravelling, were confirmed during an inspection by officials from the department. The upgraded road is expected to provide safer, faster and more reliable travel for residents, traders and other road users.
Speaking after the inspection, Surveyor Janet Bosibori, who supervised the project, said the road is a key transport corridor linking the villages of Kangatotha, Naoros, Lokipetot and Eliye.
She said the improved road will enhance access to Lake Turkana, reducing travel time and making movement more convenient for local communities, visitors and businesses operating in the area.
Bosibori noted that the road upgrade is expected to stimulate economic activity, particularly in the fishing sector, by easing the transportation of fish from landing sites to markets. She added that improved road infrastructure will also facilitate the movement of goods and services while supporting tourism and other livelihood opportunities around the lake.
The inspection team comprised Senior Procurement Officer Shakespere Lomoe, Roads Inspector Engineer Zaika Bilal, Roads Engineer Emmanuel Amodoi and Accountant Scout Emmanuel, who assessed the completed routine maintenance works.
The County Department of Roads reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining and upgrading the county road network to improve connectivity, support local livelihoods and promote socio-economic development.
