The Cabinet Secretary (CS) for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration Onesmus
Kipchumba Murkomen has hailed the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders in improving
physical facilities in the education sector across the country.
Murkomen said the efforts have provided a conducive environment for learners to access
quality and affordable education in Kenya.
“The improvement of infrastructure in the country has been the collaborative efforts of
the government, development partners, communities, individuals and the church. This gesture
has enabled students to a good place to sleep, learn and play,” said Murkomen when he
commissioned a 400- bed capacity dormitory at The Kitondo School in Mbooni East Sub County
on Friday.
The newly constructed dormitory was achieved through the collaborative efforts of the Board of Management and the local community, and it will ease congestion and improve living
conditions for the over 1,000 learners at the Extra County School.
During the event, the CS promised to mobilize resources to help in the construction of a
multi-purpose dining hall at the school from October, 2025.
“I will mobilize resources jointly with other individuals to start construction from
October 2025. We shall come here in February, 2026 to commission the multi-purpose dining,”
he noted.
Murkomen also said it was important to ensure learners transitioned 100 percent from
primary to secondary schools saying education is the only equalizer in this life.
On recruitment teachers, he disclosed that the government is determined to employ
116,000 by 2026 saying already, 76,000 have been recruited.
Speaking at the same event, the Managing Director (MD) Kenya Railways Corporation
Philip Mainga who is also the chairman of the Board of Management (BOM) of the school,
assured parents that the management is committed to improving the infrastructure to ensure
students enjoy a good learning environment.
Mainga also lauded close working relationship of parents, teachers and BOM that has
seen the school to take over 200 students to university each year.
“We are committed to enhance physical facilities in this school. I appreciate the
cooperation of between parents, teachers and BOM that has led to this success,” said Mainga.
The Kitondo School Chief Principal Richard Barage Mokaya said that they intended to
develop alternative revenue streams for self-sufficiency, enhance learner welfare and also
improve academic performance.
Present at the function included Principal Secretary, Aviation and Aerospace Teresia
Mbaika, Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei among others.
