Youths urged to embrace artificial intelligence to drive economic growth

By S, KNA

The Coast region youths have been urged to embrace emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) responsibly and ethically to improve their livelihoods.

The Child Evangelism of Kenya organisation held a three-day workshop in Mombasa to educate youths on AI and its applications in today’s digital age.

Sheikh Omar Buya, one of the organisers, stressed that AI is a crucial aspect of the fourth industrial revolution, with technologies like robots and ChatGPT already being utilised.

“With good organisation and discipline, AI can help grow our economy and improve interactions within our country,” said Sheikh Buya.

He pleaded with the government and private sponsors to support the initiative, aiming to reach more youths and equip them with the knowledge to do good things in the country

Pastor David Ruaka highlighted the significance of learning AI, particularly in avoiding the misuse of social media to fuel animosity due to a lack of information.

“We have come together as different organisations to educate youths on the correct ways of using AI,” Ruaka said.

Hope Wanjiru Mwaka, one of the students who attended the workshop, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, citing AI’s potential to simplify job opportunities and create peace.

“AI will create simplicity in job opportunities and make it easier to maintain peace in our country,” Mwaka said.

Jamil Jamal, an actor known for using his skills to educate society, highlighted the need for discipline in harnessing AI’s potential to drive economic growth and promote good interaction within the country.

Jamal emphasised the importance of using mobile phones and AI responsibly to pass on good information to others.
