A section of UDA leaders have appealed to residents of Mbeere North constituency, Embu County to make a wise decision of electing a pro-government candidate in the forthcoming by-election, slated for November 27.
This comes a day after UDA party settled on Leonard Muthende as the ruling party flag bearer in an event graced by Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki at Karambari Market.
The by-election was necessitated by appointment of the immediate former MP for the area, Geoffrey Ruku as Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Public Service.
Speaking while attending a church service at St. Peter’s ACK Church Siakago, the leaders led by Lands CS Alice Wahome asked voters not to allow their judgement be swayed by the politics of the day.
“The choice of who will be your next MP is in your hands, you can either make a wise move or blow it up,” she said.
Wahome said a candidate aligned to the government was the best bet for Mbeere residents to ensure continuity of the good work done by the former MP.
She added that this would also serve a demonstration of gratitude to President William Ruto for promoting their son to the post of CS.
Her sentiments were echoed by Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi, who appealed to residents to also maintain peace and decorum during the campaign period.
He said election was an event that will come and go and they should not treat the contest as a matter of life and death.
“What is important is that we maintain peace and engage in healthy politics that will not leave our people divided or fighting one another,” said Mundigi.
Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire on her part, hailed the CS Ruku for his performance since his appointment, noting that he was fit for the job.
