National and local leaders joined security teams for a community policing forum that was held in Limuru Constituency yesterday, in order to promote grassroots safety.
The meeting, convened by Limuru Member of Parliament Eng John Kiragu, brought together chiefs, assistant-chiefs, Nyumba Kumi elders, and representatives from the security agencies in Ndeiya and Limuru sub-counties.
The forum focused on strengthening the role of the Nyumba Kumi platform in crime prevention, promoting peace, and fostering unity within neighborhoods.
In his address, Kiragu said the initiative was vital for maintaining order and cohesion at the community level.
“We held productive discussions on the role of Nyumba Kumi in enhancing safety, promoting peace, and fostering unity within our neighborhoods,” he stated.
The forum also provided an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing development and security efforts in the constituency, with participants reviewing the progress being made both locally and nationally. Security teams were recognized for their contribution to maintaining stability and building community trust.
The event was attended by several leaders from Kiambu County and neighboring constituencies.
Key leaders who attended the forum included, Kiambu County Women Representative Anne Wamuratha, Kiambaa MP, John Kawanjiku, Thika Town MP, Alice Ng’ang’a, Kabete MP Githua Wamacukuru, Gatundu South MP GG Kagombe, Ruiru MP Simon King’ara, and nominated Kiambu Member of County Assembly Pacifica Ongecha.
According to Kiragu, the presence of fellow legislators demonstrated a shared commitment to community safety and development.
“Their presence and contributions greatly enriched the forum and reaffirmed our shared commitment to serving the people,” he said.
Community policing through the Nyumba Kumi model was introduced nationally as a strategy to strengthen neighborhood security by involving residents in safety initiatives. Chiefs and Nyumba Kumi elders play a central role in implementing the framework at the grassroots level.
Kiragu thanked all participants for their contributions, noting the importance of sustained cooperation among leaders and security stakeholders. He expressed confidence that continued dialogue would help reduce insecurity and promote cohesion in the constituency.
“A heartfelt thank you to our security teams, chiefs, sub-chiefs, Nyumba Kumi elders, and all local leaders for your tireless dedication to peace, order, and community development. We continue building a safer and stronger Limuru,” he said.
