‎Mt Kenya East KETAWU officials re-elected unopposed

Top officials of the Kenya Electrical Trades and Allied Workers Union (KETAWU) in the Mt Kenya East Branch have retained their seats after sailing through unopposed in elections held at Kamburu Hydro Station in Embu County.

Muhamed Ali Abdi was re-elected as Branch Secretary, with Betty Ojiem retaining the position of Assistant Branch Secretary. Patrick Wamathai retained Branch chairmanship, while Julius Macharia retained the Vice Chairman’s seat.  ‎

Peter Owour was re-elected Treasurer and Stella Rono was elected Assistant Branch Secretary. The unopposed outcome reflected what many members described as satisfaction with the current leadership’s performance and direction. ‎

Addressing the press after the results, Abdi said the team’s transparent and principled leadership had earned them the trust of workers.

“Our good stewardship is what has won us this unchallenged mandate. We remain committed to protecting the rights and welfare of all our members,” Abdi said. He noted that pushing for improved Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) will be one of the union’s top priorities in the new term, aimed at securing better pay, working conditions, and job security for workers in the sector.

Embu County Labour Officer Laureen Mburu, who supervised the exercise, affirmed the credibility of the process, saying the election was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.

“The process met all the required legal and procedural standards, and the outcome truly reflects the will of the members,” Ms. Mburu said.
