Expectant women urged to seek services at health facilities

By A, KNA

Expectant women in Nyandarua County have been advised to embrace healthy living, which involves eating a healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals, drink a lot of water and engage in regular moderate physical activity.

Speaking on the sidelines of an Expectant Mothers Open Day at Baari Health Centre in Ndaragwa Constituency, health workers and county leaders underscored the need to encourage expectant mothers to seek medical services at established health facilities.

It was observed that there was low uptake by such women seeking prenatal services at health facilities.

Ms. Anne Wangechi, the Officer in Charge of Baari Health Centre, encouraged expectant women to ensure they attend all scheduled prenatal care visits to monitor their health and that of their unborn baby.

She noted that these healthy habits not only support the mother’s well-being but are also crucial for the baby’s development and can reduce risks of complications like gestational diabetes and preterm birth.

Wangechi also encouraged them to embrace healthy diets and regular light exercise, as they too boost their well-being and reduce stress.

Her sentiments were echoed by Kiriita Ward, MCA Milkah Wanjiru, who supported the idea to bring such women together during such sessions, where they also get an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences.

She emphasized the need for them to seek medical services at health facilities so that medical officers can walk them along the pregnancy journey, before, during, and after birth.

During the open day exercise, the women were taken through training on healthy diets, exercise, family planning and physical exercises, among others.
