First female chief takes office in Bosongo, Kisii County

Sarah Isaboke has been installed as the new chief of the Bosongo location in the Kisii Central Sub-County of Kisii County, following the retirement of Senior Chief Ayienda Mokaya.

Isaboke, who is the first woman to serve as a chief in the location, was inaugurated in a ceremony held at Gusii stadium on Thursday with members of the community, current and former administrators and political leaders in attendance.

Bosongo location is a unique cosmopolitan jurisdiction area, as it forms part of the Kisii Central Business District (CBD) and covers the two institutions of higher learning in the Kisii region, that is Kisii University and Kisii National Polytechnic, besides comprising a mosaic of communities involved in diverse trade and commerce.

The location comprises five sub-locations, including Bobaracho, Kiong’anyo, Nyamage, Kisii town and Nyanchwa-Nyansacha.

Speaking during the event, Kisii Central Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Gladys Nyongesa urged the newly installed chief to uphold the core values of public service, including transparency and accountability, integrity and honesty and professionalism in the course of executing her duties.

“You are the link between the government and the community and as such, you must maintain a professional image of your office throughout,” Ngongesa said.

She encouraged the administrator to be at the forefront in disseminating government programmes to the citizens.

The DCC also called upon the community members to provide a conducive environment for the chief to work, saying that administrators have the mandate to serve the citizens at all times.

Bobaracho ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Ibrahim Onkubo congratulated the newly installed chief and urged her to trust in God even as she serves the people.

Onkubo told the political class to avoid politicising the office and encouraged his counterparts to work together with the administrators in order to fight crime in the area.

The MCA also cautioned the youth against being used by politicians to disrupt opponents’ public gatherings and, instead, urged them to embrace peace ahead of next year’s General Election.
