The Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) has launched a service desk at the Huduma Centre in Mombasa to improve access to its services and strengthen regional operations.
Speaking during the launch, KISM Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Kenneth Matiba, stated that the initiative marks a key milestone in the Institute’s efforts to decentralise services to its more than 28,000 members nationwide.
“Today marks a pivotal moment as we operationalize our regional Chapter through this launch, advancing our reach and ensuring members, can access our services seamlessly regardless of location,” said Matiba.
He stated that the launch follows the KISM Regional Chapters Policy, approved by the KISM Council in 2024, which aims to enhance service delivery and professional standards nationwide.
“This is a culmination of dedicated efforts and collaboration with the Huduma Kenya Secretariat to improve accessibility and efficiency. Our focus remains on streamlining registration processes, enhancing service delivery, and ensuring compliance with professional standards,” he said.
Matiba thanked the KISM Council for providing strategic direction and commended both the KISM and Huduma Kenya teams for their coordinated efforts in making the initiative a success.
He added that operationalizing regional chapters and leveraging Huduma Centres will make professional services more accessible, promoting growth and excellence in supply chain management.
“This launch is a significant milestone, but also a stepping stone towards further improvements and innovations. We will continue enhancing our services, to ensure KISM remains at the forefront of professional development,” he said.
Matiba noted that KISM has trained Huduma Centre staff on its products and services to support joint service delivery. He assured that KISM officers will operate within the centres with professionalism and integrity, in line with Huduma Kenya guidelines.
On his part, KISM Chairperson John Karani said integrating KISM services into Huduma Centres demonstrates the Institute’s commitment to simplifying procedures and improving service delivery in line with Article 6 of the Constitution.
“The inclusion of KISM services within Huduma Centres is a demonstration of our commitment to improving accessibility and efficiency for members and the public. By bringing our services closer to the people, we are empowering professionals and institutions nationwide,” said Karani.
He said KISM currently operates nine regional chapters across the country, including Coastal, Central Rift, Lower Eastern, Nyanza, North Rift, North Eastern, Mt. Kenya, South Rift, and Western regions.
“The operationalization of Regional Chapters is a tangible commitment to decentralizing our services and empowering members at the grassroots level. These Chapters will serve as hubs for knowledge sharing, networking, and professional development,” he added.
Karani emphasised that the partnership with Huduma Kenya is part of a two-pronged strategy combining physical presence and digital expansion to strengthen KISM’s national reach.
“Today’s launch is not just about expanding our service points; it is about building bridges that connect members to opportunities and communities to efficient supply chain management,” he said, while thanking the Huduma Kenya Secretariat and KISM teams for their collaboration.
Huduma Kenya Chief Executive Officer, Ben Kai. said plans are underway to establish Huduma Centres in all 290 constituencies and introduce digital trucks and kiosks to serve hard-to-reach areas.
“We are committed to ensuring that every citizen has access to quality public services, as guaranteed under Article 232 of the Constitution. We decentralise to give feedback to help improve service delivery,” said Kai.
