Shabana’s head coach Peter Okidi has expressed confidence that his side has a chance to challenge for this year’s Football Kenya Federation Premier League title race following a narrow 1-0 win over Sofapaka FC at Gusii Stadium on Saturday.
The only goal of the match scored by Bronson Nsugubo in the 7th minute was enough to grant the Kisii-based side a win and maximum points over relegation-threatened Sofapaka FC.
Okidi who spoke after the match said that Shabana was firmly in the title race and will win silverware at the end of the season.
“I want to thank the players for bringing to an end a series of disappointing results at home because we had unanimously agreed never to drop points at Gusii Stadium,” he added.
Sofapaka Head Coach Ezekiel Akwana attributed the loss to his team’s slow start into the first half of the game.
The experienced tactician noted that he had identified areas to work on and promised a good performance in their next match.
“We were a little sluggish at the start of the match, however, we changed a few things in the second half and finished stronger. We are going to work on our weaknesses to ensure a different outcome in our next game,” Akwana said.
Shabana are now third in the league with 27 points while Batoto Ba Mungu remain in 17th position with 14 points, one point ahead of Kariobangi Sharks who are bottom of the log with 13 points.
