Kisii County Commissioner Mwachaunga Chaunga has cautioned political leaders in Kisii against hooliganism in political gatherings in the region.
Speaking after reading this year’s Jamhuri day presidential speech at Mobamba High School in Masaba South Sub County, Kisii, Chaunga noted the increasing incidences of politicians using rowdy youth to disrupt their opponents’ meetings was unacceptable.
“Nobody is above the law and as the security team, we will not allow any politician to disrupt their opponents’ forums using goons,” he affirmed.
The County Commissioner said that stern legal action would be taken against any individual caught fueling violence in political gatherings.
He pointed out that every politician was free to engage and share their manifesto with the electorates devoid of violence.
Chaunga decried the increasing cases of defilement in Kisii and urged the community members to refrain from using the kangaroo courts to solve such cases.
“Defilement is a criminal offence and perpetrators of such vices should be arraigned in court so that they answer to the alleged charges,” he stressed.
The CC also called upon the chiefs to continue working together with the security apparatus in the fight against illicit brew and drugs.
Chaunga urged the residents to take the lead in the fight against illicit brew, saying that they should report those engaging in the illicit brew business and drug peddlers.
Further, he pledged to work closely with the county government of Kisii to ensure they successfully implement development projects in the region.
Kisii Governor Simba Arati reiterated his commitment to supporting President William Ruto’s broad-based government.
Arati lauded the national government for pledging to support different projects in the county including the expansion of Gusii stadium, the construction of 15,000 affordable housing units and four new markets.
As part of his message during this festive season, Arati urged parents to be mindful of their spending during this festive period and prepare well for the new school term.
The Governor told the residents to embrace Christmas by sharing with the less fortunate and uplifting the vulnerable households.
He also encouraged the PSV drivers and boda boda riders to exercise caution, obey rules and stay patient amid increased travel to prevent accidents.
