Siaya county member of parliament, Dr. Christine Ombaka is urging youthful members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party to go slow in their quest to wrestle the party leadership from its founder members.
According to Ombaka, the haste in which the youthful members want to make changes will fracture the party, and might lead to its collapse.
Speaking at the Siaya National Polytechnic grounds where she presided over the disbursement of National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) bursaries, the county MP said those eager to assert themselves in the party must learn to be patient if ODM was to survive the turbulence occasioned by the death of its founder leader, Raila Odinga last year.
“The youthful members must go slow on their ambitions and prioritize unity” said Dr. Ombaka adding that the current wrangles within ODM party are teething problem that would eventually settle.
Dr. Ombaka said ODM remains the largest and most organized political party in Kenya and dismissed suggestions of pending mass defections, saying that leaving ODM for smaller outfits would be ‘a wrong mistake politically’ for any of the youthful members.
She urged the young politicians eager to ascend to the top to study the political environment carefully and plan for the future rather than rushing into leadership contests.
“Youthful ambition should not come at the expense of party unity” she warned.
