Police working on a tip off have recovered suspected stolen items worth millions of shillings during a sting operation in Kisumu East Sub-County.
Officers from Gita Police Station recovered an assortment of items from a house believed to have been stolen elsewhere and kept after members of the public raised alarm over suspicious activities at the premises.
According Kisumu East Sub-County Police Commander Edward Masibo, residents of Kajulu Gardens Estate in Konya Sub-Location, Mamboleo, alerted security officers about suspected criminal activities linked to a house within the area.
The tip-off led officers to conduct a targeted operation, during which a number of items believed to be proceeds of crime were recovered.
Masibo said the operation resulted in the recovery of three motorcycles: a red Boxer 150 registration number KMFL 438M, a red Boxer 150 registration number KMFS 194W, and a black Boxer 150 registration number KMDF 360D.
Other items recovered include a 65-inch Hisense television set, a 12-kilogramme Mengas gas cylinder, a double-burner gas cooker, a gas hose pipe, a gas regulator, a Tecno tablet, several mobile phones of different makes, and assorted motorcycle spare parts.
Police also arrested a 23-year-old suspect, James Kenneth Otieno, who is believed to be linked to a criminal gang that has been terrorizing residents in parts of Kisumu East.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
Masibo said all recovered items have been secured as exhibits and are awaiting identification by their rightful owners.
He commended members of the public for volunteering information and urged continued cooperation between residents and security agencies to enhance safety and curb crime in the area.
