Abagusii elders condemn political violence

The Abagusii Cultural and Development Council of Elders has criticized the increased cases of political violence being witnessed across the county.

Speaking to the press in Kisii town, the Chairperson of the Council Araka Matundura condemned the recent alleged attack on the Linda Mwananchi’s faction leaders convoy in Keumbu that left one person dead and several others injured.

“This act of politicians using goons to attack opponents is unacceptable because it has led to the loss of lives and destruction of property,” Matundura said.

He decried the participation of women in the alleged chaos, adding that they have always been peacemakers and not perpetrators of violence.

The Chairperson urged the leaders in Kisii and Nyamira counties to address political goonism in the region to ensure the incident does not recur.

Matundura noted the elected leaders had remained silent on the matter despite the damage caused and called upon the security agencies to expedite the investigations.

Speaking separately, Bobasi Member of Parliament Aspirant Dr. Kodeck Keana noted that Kisii has been peaceful for the longest time and such acts of violence should not be condoned.

“Kenya is a democratic country and those responsible for the death of our brother Mapinduzi should face the full force of the law,” he added.

Seven suspects linked to the incident which claimed the life of Vincent Osiemo, popularly known as Mapinduzi, were arrested and released on cash bail pending the hearing.

As the country prepares for next year’s General Election, there are growing calls for leaders to maintain peace even as they head to the campaigns ahead of the 2027 poll.
