Ahero to be elevated to a town

Kisumu County Government is set to elevate Ahero trading centre to a town in a move aimed at increasing its economic potential.
Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o will preside over the ceremony on Thursday at Karanda Primary school.
Ahero is among five urban centres that were elevated to towns in a gazette notice last year others are Maseno, Muhoroni, Kombewa and Katito.
Located in Nyando sub county, it will become the second township to be elevated after commissioning Maseno town last month by area Governor.
Nyong’o said the elevation of the centres to towns would enable them to access finances from development partners.
Already the residents have welcomed the move saying it will increase business opportunities in the area.
The integrated development plan has already been developed to spearhead the process and upgrade the town.
