The source of revenue generated in Vihiga County has been boosted over the past two years, thanks to the automation of the process.
Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo announced that at least Sh 340 million was raised in the financial year 2023-2024, up from Sh. 240 the previous year since the inception of the cashless transaction systems.
He said the automated new system has sealed the loopholes that allowed pilferage of revenue under the manual system but expressed optimism that the additional KSh. 400 million was projected financial year.
Dr. Ottichilo Ottichilo has, however, appealed to the residents to cooperate with the revenue officers by paying the rates, licence fees and other charges as to enable the county to get the funds for providing services and other obligations bestowed upon it.
He said his administration had taken note of grievances raised by traders in various markets concerning poor sanitation facilities, which are now being addressed.
The governor stated in an effort to promote urbanization, preparations are at advanced stages for the elevation of Kaimosi/Cheptulu and Luanda townships to municipality status, to pave the way for improvement of social amenities for the benefit of the residents.
At the moment county has single municipality named Vihiga, consisting of Vihiga and Sabatia sub counties, headquartered in Mbale town.
