Bhang worth Sh1.8M impounded in Kakrao, Suna East

Police in Suna East Sub-County in Migori County have impounded bhang worth Sh1.8 million in street value following a tip-off from local residents.

The swift arrest was made yesterday evening as two suspects ferrying the consignment of the stuff on a numberless motorcycle were pounced on unawares by the security officers.

Briefing the press on the incident, Suna East Sub-County Police Commander Harriet Heiley informed reporters that they received a tip from members of the public about two suspicious persons on a motorcycle carrying a huge load of tightly concealed goods.

A quick action was then made to raise a battalion of security men and women who pursued the two as they raced to dodge the many police roadblocks within the region.

“Using the intelligence report from the members of the public, the team managed to retrieve the bhang at a house in the Kimaiga area of Kakrao ward in Suna East but were unlucky to arrest the two suspects, who sneaked out of the house minutes before the police arrived,” said Ms Heiley.

The police made a search in the abandoned mud house and found one and half sacks of bhang weighing 60 kilograms.

The two suspects fled the scene into a nearby maize farm, even as the local residents confided to the security team of not knowing their identity well within the area.

“When our officers got to the scene, they were unlucky to make any arrest as the unknown suspects had already fled, leaving the exhibit at the scene,” she stated.

The exhibit was later taken to Migori Police Station as the search for the two suspects continued.

Ms Hailey reminded the local people that the sale of narcotic drugs is strictly prohibited in the region and the entire nation since it has proven to be dangerous and have negative effects on the young generation.

She called upon the members of the public to assist the police with information that can speed up the investigation and arrest of the two suspects and any other persons peddling the stuff.
