Business owners’ umbrella body in Uasin Gishu want proper financial audit of trade unions

An umbrella body representing business owners in Uasin Gishu now want a proper financial audit to be conducted for all workers unions in the country to ensure accountability, openness and transparency.

Led by Hassan Kosgey, the business community said many workers who are members of the unions have been kept in the dark about the financial positions of their societies.

The leadership of the trade Unions formed to protect the rights of workers does not adhere to the provisions of their constitutions and many have overstayed in the leadership positions, they added.

Kosgey said many of the Trade Union leaders have turned the leadership position into ladders to popularize themselves politically at the expense of fighting for the interests of the workers.

A review of the constitution and an audit, he added, will ensure effective operation of the Unions adding that this will also promote compliance and instill a sense of confidence in members that the management affairs of their unions were functioning well.

They asked workers who are members of the Unions to ensure all policies, practices and procedures are protected to ensure finances are not misused.
